Can I Still Take Care of My Kids While Recovering From a Mommy Makeover?

3 Minute Read:

Mommy Makeover surgery is growing in popularity, as it allows women to customize plastic surgery procedures that target the areas most affected by childbirth.

Your kids will always come first, and you will always love and care for them. However, if your post-motherhood body has caused you to lack self-confidence, you may be considering having a cosmetic makeover.

You deserve to treat yourself to the body you have always wanted; however, we understand that you may be worried about whether you will be able to take care of your children after having a Mommy Makeover.

Most women can look after their kids while recovering from surgery. Yet, you will likely need help for the first few days.

Let’s look at the recovery process and recovery times for a Mommy Makeover to give you a better idea of what you can expect.

What Does a Mommy Makeover Involve?

Many women decide to have a Mommy Makeover to reverse the changes their body has gone through with pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. Every Mommy Makeover is tailored to the individual, and recovery time depends on what procedure(s) you opt for.

Mommy Makeovers can include tummy tuck surgery, breast augmentation, breast reduction surgery, breast lift surgery, and liposuction.

As these are major surgeries, you will need to give yourself plenty of time to recover after surgery.

Can I Care for My Children After Surgery?

The combination of surgeries involved in a Mommy Makeover requires adequate rest afterward. You will need to avoid strenuous activity while you recover, and it may take up to six or even eight weeks to fully recover, depending on what type(s) of surgery you have had.

While you will be able to look after your children to some extent, it’s best to get extra help from family and friends if you can.

The first few days after surgery are likely to be tough, and you will need to rest. You will have bruising, swelling, and some discomfort after the operation.

You will also need to avoid lifting small children as you don’t want to strain your muscles and affect your healing process. Bending and lifting could cause bleeding or even infection.

While you may not be able to care for your children exactly as you did before, you can still be close to your children and ensure they are well cared for. Rather than picking your children up, spend time with them by sitting next to them on the couch. You will be able to watch a movie or read a book together and relax.

Older children will be easier to care for as they don’t need to be picked up. You can even give them small chores to help around the house.
