Is a facelift right for me?

A facelift, sometimes called a rhytidectomy, tightens the skin of the face and neck, achieving an overall younger appearance by lightly pulling wrinkled and drooping skin upwards to reverse the effects of time and gravity. The overall effect of a facelift removes unwanted fat from the neck, removes the jowls and lifts the facial skin into a more desirable position. Typically the results are a more sculpted jaw and neck line, fewer lines and wrinkles and improved facial volume and tone. A facelift can significantly improve your appearance if you have:

  • A loss of skin elasticity resulting in wrinkling or drooping
  • A decrease in the muscle tone of your face and neck resulting in sagging skin or hollows
  • The appearance of jowls and deep creases between the base of your nose and the corners of your mouth
  • Facial and neck wrinkles
  • Drooping eyelids or a “tired” appearance
  • An aging chin and neck contour

We perform facelifts in a range of ways depending on the location and scope of your concerns. Not only are there multiple types of facelifts, but some clients choose to combine a facelift with other surgeries like a neck lift or eyebrow surgery to accomplish additional specific goals. You may also not need a full facelift, and one of these other, more specific surgeries can give you the results you want. And for less extensive concerns, a non-invasive option like Botox or dermal fillers sometimes can be sufficient. Since there are so many possibilities for facial anti-aging, it is always best to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which treatment or treatments will work for you.

Your Facelift Procedure

We perform facelift surgeries at our state licensed and certified Surgi-Center in Fayetteville. Your procedure time and technique will vary based on the recommendations of your surgeon. There are several different kinds of facelifts, including mini facelifts, mid-face or cheek lifts, short scar facelifts and full or standard facelifts. Our expert doctors thoroughly evaluate each client who comes to Advanced Aesthetics seeking a remedy for facial aging, and your surgeon will recommend the best type of facelift to suit your needs. Depending on the right kind of facelift for you, your procedure and recovery time will vary. Mini facelifts, for example, only address the lower half of the face, but initial recovery typically takes a few days rather than the recommended two weeks for a full facelift; and short-scar facelifts are designed to minimize surgical incisions and visible scarring for patients with good skin elasticity. Facelift Recovery and Results

Immediately after your surgery is complete, you will spend 30–60 minutes in our recovery room before your discharge home. You will need a trusted loved one or family member to pick you up from your surgery since your anesthesia or possible pain medications will prevent you from driving. You may continue to take prescription pain medications for the first few days of recovery, so you should plan to stay home and give yourself plenty of TLC until you are cleared to resume normal activities. We will help you schedule regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon to ensure that you are healing well, and they will be able to tell you when you can safely return to work or exercise. Depending on your particular surgery, you will likely need to take between one and two weeks away from work. It usually takes three to six weeks for swelling and bruising to subside, at which point you will be ready for post-op pictures.

Facelift complications are rare, and the vast majority of our clients heal with no issues, excellent results and barely visible scarring. If any concerns arise during your recovery, we encourage you to contact our offices right away so that we can make sure you are not experiencing any negative reactions.
