We’re Here to Help Ease Anesthesia Anxiety

October 1, 2022

When scheduling surgery, one aspect of the process that may linger on your mind is anesthesia. Will you feel anything? Will you be awake? What if you are afraid of needles? These are all common questions that people have about anesthesia. The good news is that there is nothing to worry about! Our highly trained professionals will care for you and ensure you are comfortable during your procedure. You will also have a pre-op visit with one of our patient coordinators, where you can ask any questions or voice any concerns, and they’ll walk you through the process. We want to ensure that you know what to expect on the day of your surgery as well as what to expect for recovery so that you can relax and enjoy the result!

What is anesthesia?

Anesthesia is a medication used to numb an area of your body or help you sleep during a surgery or procedure. Anesthesia works by blocking signals from your nervous system to your brain. There are different forms of anesthesia, and the kind you receive is based on your individual needs. Some of the most common types of anesthesia include:

- Local anesthesia: numbs a small area of your body

- Regional anesthesia: numbs a larger area of your body, such as your arms or legs

- General anesthesia: puts you to sleep during the surgery or procedure

What should I expect before my surgery?

Two weeks before your surgery, you will meet with our team for a pre-op visit. During this visit, we will review your surgery's details and answer any questions you may have. We will also review your medical history and ensure you are healthy enough for the procedure. We will ask for a signed consent form and other necessary paperwork to proceed.

After your surgery, we will move you to a recovery room, where we’ll closely monitor you. You will be able to go home once you are awake and alert. Having someone with you who can drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours after your surgery is essential. You should also plan to take it easy for the first few days and avoid strenuous activity. We will give you specific instructions on caring for your incisions and what to expect during your recovery. Your recovery time will depend on your specific procedure.

When you choose Advanced Aesthetics for cosmetic surgery, there is no need to worry about anesthesia! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We are here to help you through every step of your journey!
