Breast Reconstruction Techniques
Your breast reconstruction recovery is equally as important as your reconstruction surgery. We strive to make the healing process as easy and as comfortable as possible for you using sophisticated techniques to ensure painlessness without complications. We often recommend the On-Q Painbuster Post-Op Pain Pumps, a recent technology that anesthetizes the area operated on and reduces the need for narcotics. This way, you can easily manage your pain without common narcotic side effects like sedation, constipation and nausea.
Your recovery from reconstruction will vary greatly depending on the technique that you choose. Typically, clients will be able to resume normal activities after tissue expander surgeries within a week and strenuous activities within three to four weeks. After latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction, recovery can take about four weeks before resuming normal activities; and after TRAM reconstruction, recovery can take up to eight weeks.
You will have regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon over the course of your recovery to ensure that you are healing properly. Your Advanced Aesthetics surgeon will also work closely with your other healthcare specialists to make sure that you are safe and healthy during the reconstruction and recovery process. The Advanced Aesthetics team is always available to help answer any questions or address any concerns that may arise.
Breast Reconstruction Results
We always work with our patients to ensure their expectations align with realistically achievable results. Breast reconstruction patients are no exception — and it is perhaps even more important, as there are certain limitations on breast reconstruction due to patients’ health and safety needs. The key to understanding breast reconstruction results is remembering that it is going to take time for the body to heal and get back to a place that feels “normal.” Your reconstructed breasts may not look or feel exactly like your natural breasts, but they can help you feel more confident, more feminine or more like your old self.
At Advanced Aesthetics, we do our best to create results that align with our patients’ ideal self-image, but our foremost goal is keeping you safe during your recovery. This might mean starting with a smaller implant and choosing a revision surgery for better sizing later on; or allowing a tissue flap reconstruction to heal and settle before adding a fat graft to improve symmetry. The process takes time and patience, but rest assured that our team will be at your side every step of the way and always has your best interests in mind.
