How Is Breast Reduction Performed?
Breast reduction (or reduction mammoplasty) is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and takes about 2 – 4 hours, depending on the extent of tissue removal. The process begins with a consultation to determine the best surgical approach for your needs and desired outcome. During surgery, one of our plastic surgeons will make carefully placed incisions, usually around the areola and vertically down the breast, sometimes extending along the crease, to remove excess tissue, fat, and skin. The breast is then reshaped, and the nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more natural placement. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and most patients return home the same day to begin their recovery.
