Septoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia and usually takes about 1 – 2 hours. During surgery, our plastic surgeon will make a small incision inside the nose to access the septum, then carefully reshape, reposition, or remove the portions of bone and cartilage causing obstruction. Because the incisions are internal, there are no visible scars, and the nasal structure is preserved for a natural appearance. Once the septum is straightened, the nasal passages are stabilized to ensure long-term improvement in breathing. Most patients return home the same day to begin recovery and experience significant relief as healing progresses.
